Continuing Celebrating the Virginia Section’s Centennial Celebration, the ASCE Virginia Section is sponsoring a Centennial Geocaching event! This event is open to all ASCE Members, including engineering students.
The goal is to visit all seven (7) National Historical Civil Engineering Landmarks in the Commonwealth. The Seven National Historical Landmarks are:
· Great Falls Locks
· Old Cape Henry Light House
· Dismal Swamp Canal
· Dry Dock No. 1
· Crozet Tunnel
· Frink Truss Bridge
· Blue Ridge Parkway
The Norfolk Dry Dock No. 1 is on federal land and is not accessible to the public so there is a picture of the dry dock plaque somewhere on the ASCE VA section website. You can take a screen shot of the plaque once you find it.
Take a selfie with each Civil Engineering Historical Landmark and send them to ascevirginiasection@gmail.com. If you visit all seven historical landmarks, you will receive a water bottle and a centennial coin. Submissions will be showcased on the Virginia Section website. Student chapters have the opportunity to win a pizza party for their student chapter for the ASCE student chapter to get the most student submissions.
