The 2022 ASIC National Steel Bridge Competition was held on May 27 & 28 at the campus of Virginia Tech. Both AISC and ASCE cosponsor the event. The winners from the 20 regional ASCE Student Symposiums competed for to earn the top spot for steel bridge. Virginia Tech not only hosted the competition but represented the Virginias Student Symposium in the competition. In 2002 Marvin Hilton suggested that the State of Virginia should have a Continuing Education requirement to maintain a Professional License. Many other States had already done so, and he felt it was time for Virginia to follow suite. The VA Section Board of Directors (BOD) agreed and suggested that Marvin write up a draft proposal. The ASCE Peninsula Branch cohosted a guest speaker and social event at the Coastal Fermentory in Newport News’ Yard District on Thursday June 23rd.  We were joined by special guest Mr. Rick Dwyer, Deputy Executive Director of the Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance (HRMFFA) who spoke about the impacts and future of the Federal Facilities in Hampton Roads. This was the first Peninsula Branch event that has been held in the past two years.
