Open Section Positions

The Virginia Section is seeking nominations from individuals wishing to serve the Section Board for 2023-2024, beginning October 1, 2023. The open positions are First Vice President, Secretary, 2nd Section Director.

Additional open Committee Chair and chair member positions include: Younger Members, Government Relations, Membership, Newsletter Editor and Section Website Editor.

First Vice President:  The First Vice President is responsible for the Section Manual, publications, and publicity.  The First Vice President shall update the Section Manual, and coordinate and assist with the activities of the Newsletter Editor (if and when needed).  The First Vice President shall oversee the activities of the Scholarship Committee and see that the activities are properly recorded in the Newsletter and the Annual Report.  The First Vice President shall be available for special assignments by the President.

Membership Committee: Scope and Objectives -the Membership Committee should be large in number since its success depends on person-to-person contact between the Committee and large numbers of potential ASCE members and inactive present members. Members of the committee should represent a broad distribution of age groups, geography and professional fields. They should be acquainted with activities of ASCE, its publication and pamphlets, and with the procedures of applications, transfer and reinstatement of membership and assist struggling Virginia Branches in membership recruiting

K-12 Education Committee: Scope and Objectives are to coordinate with K-12 STEM events throughout the Virginia Section and the seven branches. Updating and maintaining the STEM pamphlet. Will need to coordinate with the Collegiate Education Committee

Newsletter Chair:  The Newsletter Chair will be responsible for coordinating with the Section and Branches, and Section Website Chair to get content to newsletter editor for quarterly newsletter.

Website Chair:  The Website Chair will be responsible for coordinating with the Section and Branches to get content to website manager. Will need to coordinate with newsletter chair with content for quarterly newsletter.

Government Relations Chair: The Chairs primary function is to circulate the ASCE VA Infrastructure Report Card and ASCE National Infrastructure Report Card to keep the Commonwealth government and local governments informed.  The chair should register as an ASCE KEY CONTACT.
