Centennial Celebration

Celebrating a Century of Civil Engineering Excellence in Virginia

For 100 years, the Virginia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has championed innovation, integrity, and impact in civil engineering.

Civil Engineering Certificate of Recognition for Virginia

This remarkable milestone has been made possible through the tireless efforts of our Centennial Celebration Committee, the Gala Sub-Committee, and the Interactive Map Sub-Committee. Their vision and dedication—alongside the steadfast support of Virginia Section officers, the National Capital Section members, and ASCE officers, staff, and national committees—have brought this historic celebration to life. Together, we honor a legacy built on excellence and look ahead to the next century of progress.

The Gala…

On March 26, 2022, the Virginia Section of ASCE hosted a spectacular evening at the Omni Richmond Hotel, celebrating 100 years of engineering excellence in the Commonwealth. Over 150 attendees enjoyed an evening of great food, drinks, dancing, awards, and reconnecting with colleagues from across the state.

The evening was highlighted by a keynote address from 2022 ASCE President Dr. Dennis D. Truax, who delivered an inspiring reflection on ASCE’s past century and its future. Earlier that day, the Virginia Section hosted a Meet and Greet with Dr. Truax, giving about 30 members the chance to engage in candid conversation with the National President. In the week leading up to the Gala, Dr. Truax also visited every ASCE student chapter in the Virginia Section, including Sweet Briar College.

Virginia Section President Nancy Lehr and Region 4 Governor Christina Ammens emceed the event, while Carolyn Perry, Matt Amonette, and many others worked behind the scenes to ensure a seamless and memorable celebration.
