The Roanoke Branch of ASCE, founded in 1955, is one of the oldest and largest branches in the Virginia Section, covering 25 western counties and the cities of Roanoke and Salem, extending to the borders of North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky. It also hosts the ASCE Student Chapter at Virginia Tech, founded in 1923, one of the largest in the U.S. with over 200 active students.

Members include civil engineering professionals and students from counties such as Alleghany, Bath, Bland, Botetourt, and more.

The branch has an active board and offers many opportunities for members, including K-12 STEM outreach, quarterly Civil Engineering lunch-and-learns, plant tours, social events, and support for Virginia Tech students.

The Lynchburg Branch of ASCE serves a broad and diverse region in the heart of Virginia. Covering the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Charlotte, Halifax, Pittsylvania, and Rockbridge, as well as the independent cities of Bedford, Danville, Lynchburg, and South Boston, the branch plays a vital role in supporting civil engineering professionals throughout the area. This branch also supports the Student Chapter at Liberty University (LU) in Lynchburg, newly established in 2024.

The Blue Ridge Branch of ASCE, serves the counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Greene, Highland, Madison, Nelson, Page, Rockingham, and Shenandoah.  It also hosts the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville and James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg. Part of Virginia Section’s Region 4, the Branch includes a diverse group of professionals—transportation officials, consultants, contractors, suppliers, students, and academics.

Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, the Branch fosters civil engineering across all disciplines by hosting monthly events focused on training, networking, and professional development. It offers CEUs, student chapter connections, awards, and volunteer opportunities. Managed by a Board of Officers, the Branch is committed to supporting both the community and individual members.

The Bull Run Branch of the ASCE Virginia Chapter was established in 1969 and serves a diverse and rapidly growing region in the Commonwealth. Covering the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Warren, Loudoun, Fauquier, Prince William, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, and Rappahannock, the branch brings together civil engineering professionals committed to advancing the field and supporting infrastructure development across Northern Virginia.

Founded in 1955, the Richmond Branch of ASCE serves over 500 members through collaboration with the Virginia Section and national ASCE. Driven by dedicated volunteers, the Branch supports civil engineers with educational programs, networking, professional development, newsletters, and advocacy on civil engineering issues.

The Richmond Younger Member Group (YMG) further engages younger engineers through networking, outreach, and career development. The Branch’s mission is to advance knowledge and improve the practice of civil engineering.

The Peninsula Branch of the ASCE Virginia Chapter was established in 1966 and serves a vital region in eastern Virginia. Its area includes the counties of Gloucester, Hampton, James City, Lancaster, Matthews, Middlesex, Northumberland, and York, as well as the City of Newport News. The branch supports civil engineering professionals dedicated to enhancing infrastructure and promoting excellence in the field throughout the Peninsula region.

ASCE Norfolk’s Branch encompasses the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, and Suffolk. The Branch also includes the Structural Engineering Institute chapter and the student chapter of Old Dominion University (ODU).

This Branch excels at engaging and empowering the engineering community by providing opportunities for students, young professionals, and seasoned professionals in the many subdisciplines of civil engineering. Energy and thought is put into technical seminars, lunch & learns, social events, “hard-hat tours” of local infrastructure and other opportunities to build and enrich the engineering network in the Hampton Roads Community. Norfolk is dedicated to advancing careers, technology, and engineering practices.
