SUMMARY:Richmond Branch Technical Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The DEQ is presenting on their 2023 Virginia Stormwater Handbook and Regulatory/Policy Update at our May 18\, 2023 technical meeting. \nWhen: Thursday\, May 18th\, 2023\n11:45 AM -12 PM – Sign in and Networking\n12 PM -1PM – Presentation \nWhere: 2810: a community gathering place\, 2810 W Cary St\, Richmond\, VA 23221\n(Reserved parking spaces on both sides of building and in gravel lot located through gate) \nRegistration Price: $30 members and $35 non-members\, price increases after May 18th\, 2023. \nLunch is included (Local Carytown Favorites) \nPDH: 1.0 HR \nAbstract: \nVirginia DEQ has relied on outdated and uncoordinated materials to communicate engineering practices for stormwater management at land-disturbing sites. The Erosion & Sediment Control Handbook\, Stormwater Management Handbook\, and Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Manual are each over or approaching thirty years of continued use. Further\, DEQ last updated its BMP Specs in 2011. Over the years\, stormwater management has progressed greatly\, and manufacturers have developed new products to reduce erosion\, control sediment\, and reduce runoff that impairs water quality. New BMPs are also designed to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Likewise\, the Code of Virginia and Administrative Code have changed significantly. \nFurther\, DEQ has updated its materials related to construction stormwater with memoranda and guidance documents. DEQ is reviewing these materials for consistency with Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order #19\, which establishes the Office of Regulatory Management. \nThis presentation provides an overview of DEQ efforts to consolidate Stormwater-related policies and regulations and update the above-mentioned materials to produce a new Stormwater Handbook – which will be a living document that is continually updated as regulations\, science and engineering practices evolve. This presentation also describes the process to engage stakeholders. As a national leader in its surface water protection efforts\, DEQ aspires to produce the “best-in-class” Stormwater Handbook among US states.

SUMMARY:President & Governors Forum
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Leader Training Committee\, it is our pleasure to invite you to our 2022 Presidents and Governors Forum (PGF) at ASCE Headquarters in Reston\, Virginia. This program is scheduled for Sunday and Monday\, September 11-12. \nThe PGF this year will contain select content on Sunday\, September 11th which will be live-streamed for virtual participation if you are unable to attend in person. One of the advantages of the hybrid format is the ability to reach a larger audience\, so we encourage you to share this information with other current or future leaders in your Section or Branch. \nThe program will feature interactive leadership development sessions\, a multitude of Best Practices\, practical exercises on effectively running your groups and developing a Presidential plan\, and an opportunity to interact with your Society leaders. Please see the attached draft agenda for the schedule and programming. \nWe will be using the Zoom platform to host the virtual portion of the PGF (Sunday\, September 11th only). Further log-in information will be forthcoming. \nWe have reserved a block of room at the Hyatt in Reston Town Center at $139.00 per night. Please contact the hotel to secure your room at https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/group-booking/RESTO/G-ASCE by August 19. If you are so inclined to make your airline travel arrangements early\, Dulles Airport is the closest airport to ASCE Headquarters in Reston. \nIn order to help us in the planning\, please register for the PGF by July 6 using the following Google form link https://forms.gle/xyUt2AvcWAUuUn7R6 \nThere is no registration fee to attend this event\, however\, reimbursement expenses are not covered by the Society\, and will be the responsibility of the individual and/or Section/Branch/Institute. If you are an outgoing president and the PGF will not be applicable to you\, please share this invite with your successor. \nPlease feel free to contact Nancy Berson nberson@asce.org or at 571-262-1754 (cell phone) if you have any questions or need additional assistance.
