Virginias Student Symposium

2022 Virginias Student Symposium

The 2022 Virginias Student Symposium was held at the VMI campus in Lexington, VA on April 7-9, 2022. This was the first time in two years that the student symposium was held in-person because of the pandemic. The Student Symposiums, formerly known as the Student Conferences, were realigned during the pandemic to correspond with their Regions. Previously, the Virginias Student Conference included 14 schools from Region 2 and Region 4. These schools represented the National Capitol Section, Virginia Section, and West Virginia Section. The new Virginias Student Symposium only includes student chapters from Region 4 and represent Virginia and West Virginia. 170 students attended the student symposium and competed in various competitions, ranging from Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, Infrastructure Trivia, Environmental, Surveying, and Concrete Bowling. The Virginia Section hosted the Marr Technical Paper and Hardy Cross Oratory Competitions.

All of the Virginia Section student chapters attended the Virginias Conference and were very successful. VT swept 1st place in both the Hardy Cross Oratory and Marr Paper Competitions.  Congratulations to Virginia Tech for the 1st place win in concrete canoe and will be representing the VA Student conference. Please congratulate our student chapters for all of their hard work and success!

Thanks to Virginia Military Institute for being gracious hosts and hosting during these difficult times. The student comradery still shined through. Marshall University, in Huntington, WV will be the host for the 2023 Virginias Student Symposium. Stay tuned for more details.
