2017 Shortridge Hardesty Award

Mr. W. Samuel Easterling, Ph.D., P.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE, from the Virginia Section has been selected by the Structural Engineering Institute to receive the 2017 Shortridge Hardesty Award “For his leadership and service to the profession, particularly as past chair of the Structural Stability Research Council and his contributions in the field of steel-concrete composite systems.”

Civil Engineering Scholarships 2017-2018

The ASCE Virginia Section invites ASCE Virginia Student Members, OR children and grandchildren of ASCE Virginia Section members or life members, attending an ABET accredited civil engineering program, to apply for a $2,500 scholarship. ASCE Roanoke Branch elects new officers for 2016-2017

On September 2nd, the Roanoke Branch of ASCE conducted its annual election and selected the new leadership team for 2016-2017 session. We are pleased to announce that Ryan Kincer, Steve Schad, and Chris Yow will continue in their ASCE leadership positions.  Ben Silcox will serve as the Chapter's Past President & Daniel Jean will now be serving as the new Secretary for the coming annual session. 2016 Younger Member Leadership Symposium

From 5th to 7th August, the annual Young Member Leadership Symposium was organized at the ASCE headquarters in Reston, Virginia. Rajan Jha from our region was one of the 42 young members from all across the United States that participated in this  symposium. The two day workshop was focused on gaining leadership development and professional development training and also understanding the significance of personal vision in everyone's career. The ASCE executive committee, upon the recommendation of President Mark Woodson, have selected Marc A. Edwards, Ph.D., M.ASCE from the Virginia Section, to receive the 2016 ASCE President’s Medal Award. Annual Golf Tournament Organized by ASCE Roanoke

On April 29th a dedicated group of ASCE members and invited guests from the Roanoke, VA area came together to mix work and pleasure on the golf course.  The event was the ASCE Roanoke Branch’s annual golf outing to benefit the ASCE student chapter of the Charles E. Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech.
