On September 19th – 20th, The Delegates of ASCE Region 4 assembled at the Marriott at City Center in Newport News. Region 4 is comprised of the Sections of Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, and Arkansas. The Chair of Region 4, the Regional Governors, the Regional Delegates, and current Section Presidents were invited to discuss how each of the sections are performing and important issues affecting our profession. Early registration for Professional Engineering Licensure, when a recent graduate can sit for the PE exam without the current requirement of 4-6 years of experience, was the topic discussed at the meeting. This is current practice in six states.
At this meeting, Bud Curtis was recognized for his service as Governor for the Virginia Section. Bud Curtis has been the Region 4 Governor for the Virginia Section since 2011. Mike Barbachem was inducted as the new Region 4 Governor for the Virginia Section. The Delegates enjoyed the Newport News nightlife by having dinner at Tucanos Brazilian Grill and some comradery at The Cove Tavern.
